Wide Slumber Co-Production
Bedroom Community and VaVaVoom have joined forces to create a musical theatre piece called Wide Slumber.Set for it’s international premier on 24th May at the Reykjavik Arts Festival then will tour internationally in 2015/16.
Wide Slumber is an evening length music theatre performance weaving together live music composed by Valgeir Sigurðsson with visuals crafted by VaVaVoom Theatre (S. Sunna Reynisdóttir & Sara Martí).

Wide Slumber pairs sleep and dream studies with lepidoptery (the study of butterflies and moths), exploring the theme of metamorphosis. The audience is lulled into a world where the borders between dreams and reality become blurred.

The piece is inspired by the award-winning poetic fantasia Wide Slumber For Lepidopterists by A. Rawlings.
An ensemble of four musicians, three singers and a performer share the stage to create a poetic microcosmos through live music, puppetry, moving scenography and video projections.

Lots of exciting news to follow regaring this performance so keep your eyes peeled! Follow the process on Twitter to keep up to date!

Daníel Bjarnason “Blow bright” review

….”Blow Bright,” a fascinating and often beautiful new curtain-raiser by the Icelandic composer Daníel Bjarnason. Over the course of this eclectic, but crisply structured 10-minute score, Bjarnason shows off an impressive mastery of both orchestral color and harmonic subtlety.

Yet rhythm is where the piece begins, with a sleek, metallic tick-tock from the percussion and woodwind that establishes - and simultaneously pushes against - a regular four-beat pulse. The music swells into clouds of moody, brass-laden harmony, only to cut away suddenly to a spare interlude dominated by a Renaissance-tinged descending bass line and a gorgeous, purling violin solo from concertmaster Martin Chalifour. Dudamel led a splendid, probing account of the piece.
